New Board Support Package (BSP) for Curtiss-Wright Controls’ VPX6-185 Single Board Computer Brings MILS to Rugged Embedded Platforms

LEESBURG, VA – June 16, 2009 -- Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading supplier of rugged embedded boards and subsystems for the rugged deployed Aerospace and Defense market, today announced support for Wind River’s new VxWorks MILS Platform 2.0 operating environment on Curtiss-Wright Controls’ high performance VPX6-185 single board computer (SBC). The MILS (Multiple Independent Levels of Security) infrastructure enables cost-effective development of MLS (Multilevel Secure) systems that can process classified data at multiple levels or from multiple domains simultaneously, including downgraders, guards, and other cross-domain applications. The new board support package (BSP), developed by Wind River for use with Curtiss-Wright Controls’ VPX architecture-based VPX6-185, can ease and speed the integration of MILS into deployed rugged systems, providing increased secure processing functionality in applications with space, weight and power (SWaP) constraints.

“We are pleased to support Wind River's new VxWorks MILS Platform on our industry leading VPX single board computer,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Modular Solutions, Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “VxWorks MILS Platform 2.0 will enable multiple teams working in parallel to build multilevel secure systems running multiple applications, with support for many layers of security all on a single processor. Wind River VxWorks MILS Platform will provide customers with significant reduction in time to deployment and future cost-of-change.”

“Wind River and Curtiss-Wright Controls have partnered to deliver rugged, embedded MILS solutions that will significantly speed the development and integration of secure deployed systems, while reducing the cost of certification,” said Marc Brown, vice president of marketing and strategy, VxWorks Product Division, Wind River. “By leveraging existing VxWorks-based IP and Eclipse-based software tools, MILS developers using VxWorks MILS Platform 2.0 on the VPX6-185 can expect to reduce time-to-market and cut development and migration costs.”

The MILS architecture enables the use of Common Criteria-evaluated off-the-shelf products as a base to achieve secure information sharing in battle space. It addresses SWaP constraints in embedded systems by reducing card counts, enabling a single SBC to provide multilevel secure computing functionality (i.e, Top Secret, Secret, Confidential, and Unclassified) in applications that previously required multiple dedicated platforms.

The VxWorks MILS Platform 2.0 features:

· VxWorks MILS separation kernel, developed to conform to the NIAP-validated U.S. Government Protection Profile for Separation Kernels in Environments Requiring High Robustness, Version 1.03 (SKPP)

· Direct support for high-assurance customer applications in partitions, such as guards and downgraders, using the High-Assurance Environment, including a simple separation kernel interface and secure inter-partition communication (SIPC)

· VxWorks Guest Operating System in partitions, enabling direct porting of existing VxWorks applications

· Wind River industry-specific networking technology stacks including IPv4, UDP, and TCP

· An extensive offering of targeted drivers and partner middleware

· Wind River Workbench, the leading Eclipse-based development suite

The VPX6-185

Curtiss-Wright Controls’ VPX6-185 SBC combines the performance and the advanced I/O capabilities of the Freescale 8641 processor with an extensive I/O complement to provide a highly capable processing platform for a wide range of embedded Military/aerospace applications.

VPX6-185 Features:

· Powerful general-purpose single board computer with Freescale 8641 PowerPC processor

· Single or dual processor e600 cores at up to 1.33GHz

· Up to 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM controlled by dual 64-bit controllers

· Full complement of I/O capability (Ethernet, SCSI, serial, USB 2.0, 1553, Serial ATA, TTL and differential discretes)

· Two PMC/XMC sites supporting parallel PCI and PCI Express

· VPX/VPX-REDI formats with four 4-lane fabric ports, each port being individually selectable to be either Serial RIO or PCI Express

· VxWorks 6.x BSP and Driver Suite supporting Workbench 3.x IDE (VxWorks MILS BSP is available from Wind River as part of VxWorks MILS Platform 2.0)

· Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing Linux 2.6 SDK

· Continuum Software Architecture (CSA) firmware providing a comprehensive suite of system debug, exerciser, and update functions, BIT, and non-volatile memory sanitization function

· Designed for military harsh-environment applications, both air- and conduction-cooled

· First VPX version of Curtiss-Wright Controls' popular 17x and 18x series of single board computers
